EFG BANK AND MT BRILLIANT CAPTURE 1ST WINS INTERNATIONAL POLO CLUB PALM BEACH
WELLINGTON, FL—Two Barry subsidiary games were played today at International Polo Club Palm Beach as Mt. Brilliant defeated Isla Carroll 11-9 and EFG Bank beat Lucchese 16-13 in a battle among new teams.
In the day’s first contest Mike Azzaro of Lucchese led all scoring with nine goals but it wasn’t enough as EFG Bank’s Julio Arellano and Luis Escobar combined for 13 goals and teammate Whistle Uys added three assurance goals in the high scoring contest. EFG Bank will now play Mt. Brilliant, Sunday January 18 at noon.
Mt. Brilliant went against an Isla Carroll team that had Gillian Johnston substituting for John Goodman and Mariano Obregon playing in place of Sugar Erskine. The new line-up of Isla Carroll had trouble getting going all afternoon and fell behind 9-5 by the end of the fourth chukker. Mt. Brilliant coasted in the final two chukkers to claim the 11-9 victory and opportunity to face EFG Bank Sunday. Gaston Lisioli of Mt. Brilliant was injured in the second chukker and replaced by England’s Julian Daniels who scored four of his teams 11 goals.

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located in Wellington and hosts professional polo play from January through April.
