IPC Celebrates 105th US Open Polo Championship™

April 24th, 2009

The International Polo Club Palm Beach will be featuring the finals of the 105th US Open Polo Championships this Sunday with team Audi versus Las Monjitas at 3:00 PM.
The day will be kicked off with fanfare and will feature skydivers, a flyover with two
jets, and a flag presentation of all the teams that have participated in the U.S. Open Polo
Championship at the International Polo Club Palm Beach since its inception in 2004. In
addition will be the traditional champagne divot stomp at halftime and for those looking
for a full day polo experience, limited seating for brunch in the Grand Marquee is still
available.
First played in 1904 at Van Courtland Park, NY, the U.S. Open Championship celebrated
its centennial in 2004. Known for being the premier polo facility in the United States, the
US Open has been played at the International Polo Club for the past five years and will
be the host venue for at least the next three years.
The International Polo Club has nine meticulously manicured and level polo fields that
host the most competitive polo tournaments in the country. “The fields are in perfect
condition and are the best maintained fields in the country.” says Polo Manager, Jimmy
Newman. “We have the world’s best players playing here and the teams have been
extremely well matched all season. We look forward to seeing two of the world’s most
competitive teams play for this coveted trophy on Sunday.” One of the three great polo
tournaments worldwide, along with the British and Argentine fixtures, the US Open Polo
Championship tournament attracts the finest players in the world for a month long
competition.
During the first half of the 20th century the US Open was hosted in the Northeast,
principally at Meadowbrook, moving in 1954 to Oakbrook, outside Chicago, where it
stayed until 1978. Set for 1987 at El Dorado in Palm Springs, the next four Opens were
played at the Kentucky Horse Park, home to the United States Polo Association in
Lexington. Since 1996, The U.S. Open Polo Championship has called South Florida its
