3 Teams to Compete for Third Annual Jimmer Newman Memorial Trophy Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, FL (February 9, 2007) – Polo players are like family and that tradition continues when three high-goal teams will compete for the third annual Jimmer Newman Memorial Trophy on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m. at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

All 12 players were close friends of Newman, who tragically passed away on October 8, 2004. He was an up-and-coming 24-year-old player and the son of IPC’s polo manager, Jimmy Newman. This round-robin features many of the top young American and Canadian players.

Vicky McCullough of Chesapeake Petroleum is the title sponsor. Other sponsors include Marc and Melissa Ganzi of Audi Polo, Fred Mannix of Millarville, Andrew and Teresa Hobby of Spencewood Ranch, Tony Coppola of The Tackeria, Sandra Goldman of The Chukker Collection, John Goodman of International Polo Club Palm Beach, John Grimes of Idlewild Stables and Prisa Jerseys.

The polo match is open to the public. There is no charge but everyone is invited to enjoy a post-match luncheon at the club’s Mallet Grille for $15 each.

Proceeds from the match benefit the Polo Players Support Group, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation which was created to provide financial assistance to seriously injured or ill polo players or grooms. Among the players who have received financial help is Rob Walton, who was an 8-goaler and was injured in 1995 when playing in Malaysia. To date the PPSG has provided financial assistance to 21 seriously injured or ill players and grooms.

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue South, between Pierson Road and Lake Worth Road in Wellington. For information, directions or ticket purchases, please call the club at (561) 204-5687 or visit the website at www.internationalpoloclub.com.
