Moves to Quarterfinals

WELLINGTON, FL – Unbeaten in its two opening
rounds of the Piaget Gold Cup, North American Polo League’s
Crab Orchard will gallop to the quarterfinals of the
USPA tournament as the team defeated Audi 14-9 today
at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Audi started the match strong, scoring the first two
goals of the match, but Crab Orchard never trailed as
the team scored the next three goals leaving the score
at 3-2 at the end of the first. Crab Orchard’s
Adolfo Cambiaso widened the gap as he scored four consecutive
goals, followed by one from the field from Crab Orchard
captain George Rawlings and a field goal by teammate
Jeff Blake, ending the half at 9-3.
Audi tried to narrow the gap during the last two chukkers
scoring five goals, but it wasn’t enough as Crab
Orchard also scored five during the second half.
“It was a tough game. All the teams are really
tough. Our team is starting to play better and better
and we’re looking forward to the quarterfinals,”
Rawlings said with confidence. “The more we play
together the better we get. We’re looking good
for the Gold Cup.”
This is the second year the Piaget Gold Cup has been
played at International Polo Club. The USPA Gold Cup
has been played since 1974 and is one of only three
polo tournaments rated at 26 goals in the United States.
The other two are the C.V. Whitney and the Stanford
U.S. Open Polo Championship.
Piaget Gold Cup action will continue tomorrow as Isla
Carroll will face Zacara at 10 a.m. and Skeeterville
will take on Black Watch at 3 p.m. at the International
Pol0 Club Palm Beach.
International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667
120th Avenue South in Wellington and hosts professional
polo tournaments until April 20. The premier game of
the week is played at 3 PM every Sunday on the Stanford
