Audi Moves
On To Butler Handicap Polo Final

WELLINGTON, FL – Gonzalito Pieres of Audi closed
the door on White Birch by scoring his eighth goal of
the game during the sudden death overtime. The 17-16
victory moved Audi into the finals of the Butler Handicap
at International Polo Club Palm Beach today.
The game turned out to be a scoring bonanza for both
teams. It was Audi who struck early and mounted a 10-4
lead by the end of the second chukker. Not to be denied,
White Birch went on a scoring frenzy of its own in the
next two chukkers and narrowed the gap to 13-12. It
was Martin Aguerre of White Birch who scored three in
the final two chukkers and a penalty goal by Lucas Monteverde
that got the score even at 16 at the end of regulation
time. In the overtime chukker it didn’t take Pieres
long before he got the ball rode it to goal and sealed
the victory.
The Butler Handicap is a USPA sanctioned tournament
played in honor of Paul Butler whose Oak Brook Polo
Club outside of Chicago, Illinois provided high goal
polo in the fifty’s, sixty’s and seventy’s.
This coveted cup was played as a national tournament
for 31 years. The final between Lechuza Caracas and
Audi will be played at noon Sunday, March 23 followed
by the USPA Piaget Gold Cup Final between Las Monjitas
and Skeeterville on the Stanford Field and Stadium.
International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667
120th Avenue South in Wellington and hosts professional
polo tournaments until April 20. The premier game of
the week is played at 3:00 PM every Sunday on the Stanford
