ISLA CARROLL AND ORCHARD HILL POST VICTORIES
IN PIAGET GOLD CUP POLO
March 10, 2008
WELLINGTON, FL – Orchard Hill's Jeff Hall having scored 10 goals in regulation time made an amazing back hand save and pass to teammate Lucas Criado in sudden death overtime to defeat Skeeterville 13-12 and Isla Carroll scored four times in the final chukker to beat White Birch 14-10 during Piaget Gold Cup play in the USPA tournament at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Hall's play today was truly amazing as he hoisted his team's record to 1-1 and kept their hopes alive to make it to the quarter final round. In the overtime, Julio Arellano of Skeeterville got the ball following the bowl-in and began racing toward goal. Suddenly, Hall outran Arellano's shot on goal stopping it with a back hand pass to teammate Lucas Criado who was able to take the ball back down the field and score the winning goal with less than a minute gone in the sudden death overtime. Hall led all scoring with 10. Criado's only score of the day was the game winner with Angel Tomas and Hector Galindo rounding out the Orchard Hill scoring. Arellano finished the day with six for Skeeterville.
The Isla Carroll, White Birch match was very closely contested as both teams were checking hard on defense trying to prevent the other from opening up the game. In the final chukker Isla Carroll was awarded a goal following a White Birch Technical, scored two more penalty goals from 30 and 40 yards out and added an assurance goal from the field to seal the victory at 14-10. Marcos di Paola and Facundo Pieres each scored six for the winners while Lucas Monteverde of White Birch led his team with seven.
Piaget Gold Cup action will continue Tuesday at International Polo Club Palm Beach when Las Monjitas plays Lechuza Caracas at 11 am.
